  Magazine Cover Analysis This magazine cover is from January 1931 and I will be analysing it, along with other older film magazines, to help serve as inspiration for my retro inspired film magazine. The masthead is at the top of the cover in a bold white font within a green banner. This establishes a recognisable brand and the strong prominent font adds a level of sophistication that the publication may be trying to present Hollywood as. The magazine’s slogan is in a smaller white font above the masthead reading “The National Guide to Motion Pictures”. This gives the magazine a USP, convincing the reader that this publication may provide the best and exclusive content. The cover image is of Clara Bow. The use of a celebrity increases the ability to sell as the general public may be intrigued into their life. Film Magazine Website Analysis

  Film Magazine Website Analysis Sight and Sound The web banner consists of the BFI logo, which when clicked on directs the viewer to the homepage. On the left there is a menu tab that can direct the viewer on where to go. The visual layout of the website is simple and changes monthly to match the colour scheme of the latest issue. In this instance, the colour scheme black, pale blue and a dusty white. The main page consists of bold black font reading “Sight and Sound”, establishing the name for the reader. Within the text, is an image of Wes Anderson, which is where the pale blue and dusty white colours appear. The image is grainy and slightly white washed, creating a stylized vintage effect. Upon scrolling down there is the same image, but without the text over it, with a link to purchase the magazine in which he features in. The text stating “the latest issue of Sight and Sound” encourages the reader to be up to date with the newest stories and to feel involved in the world ...

  Film Magazine Industry Data ·    Most popular film magazine is Empire – their readers are 75% male and is aimed at the ages 18-40 years. This because they often cover big blockbusters like superhero and fantasy films which are typically aimed at that demographic. T The publication Sight and Sound was first published in Spring 1932 – it is now aimed at university students studying film or those with an in-depth knowledge due to it covering figures like Alfred Hitchcock and Jean Harlow. ·     Unlike Empire, Sight and Sound has a more unisex approach. ·    There were 700 million general print magazines sold in 2022 – but these sales have been declining in recent years.
